About USW Local 1-207

History

Our Local Union was formed in 1955 to represent workers in the northern part of Alberta.  We later merged with Local 1-206, who had jurisdiction over the southern part of the province, to form a provincial Local 1-207.  In 2008 USW Local 5885 merged with us to create one large geographic local covering all of Alberta.

Over the years we have primarily represented workers in the wood producing industries, from logging to secondary manufacturing.  Our Local has always been diverse though, and today we represent workers in industries ranging from long term care, public works, truss construction, trailer manufacturing, manufactured housing and OSB production, steel servicing and manufacturing, pipe protection and labour relations professionals along with our traditional logging and sawmilling operations.

Our Local celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2005.  We look forward to the next 50 years of representing our members in Alberta.

Structure

Our Local Union is governed by a Local Executive Board, whose members are elected at our Local Delegated Meeting.  The Local Delegated Meeting is open to all Local 1-207 members across Alberta and delegates are elected from their operations to attend on behalf of their operations.

The Local Delegated Meeting is where the bylaws of the Local are determined, and motions are passed by the delegates to give direction to the Local Executive Board to run the Local.

The Local Executive Board meets quarterly to provide leadership and guidance to the Local.  The Local staff answers to the Local Executive Board.

Staff

The Local Union employs business agents and office staff as determined by the Local Executive Board to carry on the day to day operation of the Local Union.
